Law

Studying Law involves understanding legal theory and how it applies to real-life situations. The course equips you with the core knowledge and skills needed to go on to study to become a solicitor or barrister but is equally useful for any career where thinking logically and communicating clearly are important. Courses will teach you the different strands of the subject including (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Company Law

  • Contract Law

  • Criminal Law

  • Human Rights

  • Jurisprudence

  • Law of Torts

  • Medical Law and Ethics

A levels

 A levels that can be useful:

GCSE requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSEs, including level 4 or C grades in maths, English and science, are typically necessary to study law at A-level. Check the requirements carefully.

 

Enrichment Options

EPQ - allows you to complete a research project in an area of law that interests you. It is always good to refer to this in your personal statement as it is a good talking point at an interview.

 

Admissions Tests

Some universities require you to sit the LNAT examination.

 

Work Experience

You will have the opportunity to gain a week's work experience in year 12 with a local provider or can travel further afield if you wish. Online courses are also recommended through MOOCs or university events. At J6 we have a number of links to law firms for work experience.
